COMICS + RESEARCH
Andrea's doctoral research in Language and Literacy Education employs arts-based research methods to explore the craft of speculative comics as a primary way of understanding and examining young people’s ideas and attitudes about the future. Enriched through interdisciplinary scholarship reaching across the fields of creative writing, literacy education, media, and visual arts, her work integrates theories of youth empowerment, autoethnography, and participatory practices within the creation of graphic narratives. In 2019, Andrea was invited to the UBC Public Scholars Initiative and in 2020, she became a Climate Connector Teaching Fellow at the University of British Columbia. Andrea is currently a 2022/23 Shadbolt Fellow in the Humanities at Simon Fraser University, in the department of Sociology and Anthropology.
